New York City Transit Strike
Tuesday, December 20, 2005

I work in New York City and for a big financial so I thought I'd mention something about the transit strike and whether I think it is affecting the financial markets.

When I woke up this morning, I called our company emergency hotline number to see what the status of the company was.  They gave an update on the strike but bluntly stated, "All employees are expected to be at work."

There are some traders missing from today's action but I don't think it is substantial enough to affect normal business.  One thing that I would predict is that the afternoon sessions will probably see lighter than usual volume as many traders would probably leave early to try to get home at a decent time tonight.

Seeing people wander aimlessly around the city brings back bad memories of 9/11.  Hopefully this strike doesn't last past today.
