Is The U.S. Considering Buying Equity in Banks?

U.S. may shore banks, U.K. styleYesterday, Great Britain announced that it would shore up some banks by buying preferred stock in the biggest banks. This move by the U.K. helped give the pound a boost in forex trading, and also provided some liquidity into the market.
Today, there are rumors that the U.S. Treasury is considering buying equity in banks as well. With a global rate cut not really working, and with credit markets still recalcitrant, it is no surprise that the Treasury is trying to come up with more options for increasing the flows of capital through the system.
