Third Time Not a Charm

December 5, 2006 by Trader Rich

I want to give a quick update on the state of my Forex trading…  I was very persistent this morning looking for an upward break of the GBP/USD.

  • I entered a 3 lot long GBP/USD position.  The trade was up 75 pips, I set my stop/loss to breakeven and then bam, stop/loss hit.

Why didn't I take some profit? My first profit target was 30 pips whereby I would have exited 1 position.  The position almost hit 30 pips (not quite) but then quickly reversed.

  • I entered another 2 lot long GBP/USD position.  My profit target was again 30 pips for at least 1 lot.  The trade was up as much as 20 pips per lot, when again my breakeven stop/loss was hit.
  • I entered yet again (a third time) another 2 lot long GBP/USD position.  This time, the position never had a chance and I was stopped out at -30 per lot or -60 for the total position.

I can't say I didn't try.  I was pressing it a bit though and probably should have stopped after the second in hindsight.  I felt a bit of the impulse creep in after I lost on the third try though but I didn't act on that impulse.  I closed my charts and called it a day.

Nevertheless, I'm still up 120 pips for December.
